Essentials for Success

For flourishing plants, use potting soil for potted plants or planting mix for garden beds paired with Root Zone starter fertilizer is the perfect duo to foster robust root growth and minimize transplant shock.

Details

Munstead Lavender is a compact, aromatic herbaceous perennial with a bushy, mounded form. Its fine texture integrates effortlessly into the garden, offering a subtle contrast when paired with plants of coarser textures for an enhanced landscape design.

This plant requires minimal maintenance, but it benefits from periodic trimming and should be pruned back in late fall to maintain its shape and prepare it for winter. Munstead Lavender is a favorite for attracting pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, and is also a fragrant addition to your garden. It is deer-resistant, making it a reliable choice for gardens prone to deer activity. There are no significant negative characteristics associated with this plant.

Munstead Lavender is recommended for the following landscape applications:
  • Mass Planting
  • Border Edging
  • General Garden Use
  • Container Planting
Features

Munstead Lavender boasts spikes of delicate, fragrant purple flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer, making it a standout in any garden. The flowers are not only beautiful but are also excellent for cutting and use in dried arrangements. Its narrow, silver-green leaves provide texture and contrast, staying evergreen in milder climates. The fruit is not ornamentally significant.

Care

Planting & Growing

Munstead Lavender thrives in well-drained, slightly alkaline soil that is lean and loose; avoid heavy, compacted soils. Plant with the crown slightly above soil level, ensuring a minimum spacing of 2 to 3 feet between plants. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish the root system. Once established, reduce watering frequency as the plant becomes more drought-tolerant. To encourage continuous blooming, remove spent flowers throughout the season.

We went specifically to buy the Munstead Lavender in their ad for $5.99. Their website & POS system said they were in stock. No staff member could locate them. They all said they had never seen them. They offered to special order them at the sale price, then the POS system said the warehouse was out of stock. Then they offered to order the 1 gallon version at full price. I’m OK with ordering the larger version, but would have appreciated some sort of discount since they never had the 4” version mentioned in the ad. 😕
