This variety is celebrated for its complex flavor profile—sweet with spicy undertones—and has repeatedly been a taste-test favorite. Fruit is best harvested when fully ripe for maximum sweetness and aroma. Foliage remains green throughout the growing season, while spring flowers provide seasonal interest but are not ornamentally significant.

Care

Planting & Growing

Flavor King Pluot® will grow to be about 12 to 15 feet tall at maturity, with a similar spread. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 3 feet from the ground and should not be planted underneath power lines. It grows at a moderate rate and is well suited to smaller garden spaces.

This tree does best in full sun and prefers well-drained soil. Regular watering is important during establishment and fruit development, though soil should not remain consistently wet. Flavor King Pluot® requires approximately 400 chilling hours or fewer and performs well in USDA Zones 6–10. This variety is not self-fruitful and requires cross-pollination from Flavor Supreme Pluot®, Dapple Dandy Pluot®, Santa Rosa Plum, or Late Santa Rosa Plum. It is not native to North America.
